Snow Way!

I could lie and tell you all that the cold, grey weather up here hasn't affected me at all. C'mon, I'm a Texas gal. Without sun I feel like I am withering. The truth is, I haven't gone outside without my fleece on since early November...and I'm pretty tired of layering up like a marshmallow. Daylight savings has been a nice change since finally I'm not looking out into darkness at 4:30 pm. Cold aside, it's pretty darn nice here. I expected much worse.

BUT, when life gives you snow, you go skiing! The flip side of the equation is that Mike and I have discovered the world of winter sports and it is friggin' fantastic!

REM sings about "Night Swimming" and based on recent experience I think the song should be about night skiing instead. With the nearest ski slope only 30-minutes away from where we live, we've developed a new passion for Friday and Saturday night ski dates. Unbelievable! Leave work at 6 pm, gear up and get on the slopes by 7 pm--ski until 10 pm and then grab a beer at the lodge to warm the insides. Not bad for a way to unwind.

Last night we were riding the lift, when all the sudden we heard a thundering noise from the roads below the mountain. Out of the darkness we watched an army--literally 20 or more--snow plows come roaring across the roadways toward the highway. They were out in full force to clear the nearly 7 inches of new powder than had fallen since we arrived. It was a really amazing sight to behold. The flakes kept coming. By the time we packed it up and left our car was buried under the snow and all you could hear outside in the padded quiet was the crush of your boots underfoot.

Invitation is open for anyone to come and enjoy with us. Hint hint. If not this year, there is always next. Miss you all in Texas and hope that Spring is bringing you the rain and cool temps you need to prepare for the summer heat.
